Today was a pretty typical day. I was pretty frazzled by late afternoon and I was thinking back over my day and I decided I wanted to record it so I can remember what a typical day was like at this stage of life, especially when my kids call to complain about their crazy days with their kids.
Hallee woke me up at 6 AM this morning. I didn't have to get up until 7 AM because Caitlyn has late start on Monday. I sent Hallee back to bed and she was back at 6:30 AM when I sent her back to bed again. At 7:15 I had to drag the boys out of bed to get them ready for school. I spend my mornings telling my kids each step they need to take to get ready for school over and over, they should be able to do them without being told, but that usually doesn't happen. We were running late so I dropped the boys off at school with their scooters, they usually ride to and from school. I take Hallee to school every morning. After I dropped the kids off I came home and made sure Caitlyn was getting ready for school. After that I had time to throw a load of laundry in and get ready before I needed to leave to help in Hallee's class (I go in every Monday). I love to be in the class room because Hallee loves it (she gives me at least three hugs every time I am in there) and it is nice to get to know the kids in her class, but I hate being poked and pulled on by all the kids when they have questions, especially when they are coughing and snotty. After Hallee's class I came home and folded a load of laundry before I needed to go back and pick up Hallee from school (Monday is my day for carpool). After that I made Hallee lunch and did the dishes from last night (I never used to leave dishes in the sink, but it is pretty common now). Hallee read to me while I swept and cleaned up the kitchen. I also started dinner in the crock pot, by 5 o'clock I have usually lost motivation to make dinner so I do a lot of crock pot meals. After that I got in the shower and then started a new load of laundry. After that I let Hallee watch a show while I had some down time and watched TV myself (I've learned I need to have some down time before the kids get home from school.) I finished doing Hallee's reading with her and folded another load of laundry before the kids got home from school. When the kids get home from school it is crazy! They all talk at once and they usually start in the middle of a story so I have no idea what they are talking about. While I was trying to listen to Jonah and Wyatt talk I got a message from Caitlyn's oboe teacher saying that she couldn't make it to the lesson that Caitlyn was already at the school for. Jonah was starving because he got a jaw expander on Friday and he has had a hard time finding things to eat. I hurried and made him some mashed potatoes before I went to pick up Caitlyn. I thought Wyatt said he wanted some so I dished him up a bowl, he got all upset because he had actually said that he didn't want any. Hallee wanted them so I gave them to her instead. While I was on the way to get Caitlyn I got a phone call from Jonah saying Wyatt wanted the mashed potatoes now and was mad at Hallee for not giving them to him. I talked to him on the phone and tried to get him calmed down. When I got home Wyatt had found a different snack and now Hallee didn't want the potatoes! I sat at the table with Wyatt and Jonah while they worked on their homework. I had to do a timed reading with Wyatt and I think we were interrupted four times before we actually went a whole minute without someone distracting him or asking me a question. We finally finished homework and I was able to work on this blog and pictures for a few minutes before I needed to finish up dinner. I got a text from Keith saying that he was going to be late (luckily this doesn't happen very often with his current job, it was strange for him to be home on time from his last job). I held off dinner as much as I could and then we started eating and Keith joined us when he got home. After that it was dishes again and I actually hand washed the dishes instead of saving them for tomorrow, go me! By this time it was 7:00 PM and time to start thinking about getting the little ones ready for bed, but the kids all want to play with Keith so I am back to working on this post. This is a pretty typical day for me, except most days I have more picking up and dropping off. Sometimes it feels like I haven't done much that day, but usually it is just that I haven't done a huge project, these little things take up so much time and sometimes go unnoticed, but they sure get noticed if I don't do them!
Wyatt got an awesome watch from Santa for Christmas. While we were in Oregon the home button started sticking and then it wouldn't turn on after a while. Poor Wyatt was so disappointed. He was having so much fun taking pictures and videos on our trip. Well we weren't sure what to do since Santa had brought the watch. I decided to send it back to the North Pole last Tuesday. We were all shocked when the door bell rang and there was a new watch and a letter to Wyatt from Santa. He sure works fast! Wyatt was so excited! Wyatt said, "I can't believe I got in one day"
They had a contest at school to design the cover for the yearbook. Wyatt's entry looked great!
Friday Jonah got his jaw expander and head gear. He has been in a lot of pain, poor guy.
Saturday was a busy day. Wyatt went to his friend, McCoy's birthday party. He was thrilled that it was at Classic. McCoy and Wyatt have become really good friends this year.
Jonah and I dropped Wyatt off at the party and then went to Walmart to buy soft food for Jonah. We looked at all of the clearance and Jonah found these fun boots for $9! He has had fun on them. He runs up and down the hall with them. I think he will have more fun with them outside where he has more space to run. I had just enough time to unload the groceries before I had to go pick up Wyatt and then race back for Caitlyn and I to head up to Salt Lake.
Caitlyn went to Baylee's birthday party. Tiff rode down with us and after we dropped Caitlyn off we went and watched EJ's basketball game. I love watching my nephews play, he did great! After that me, Mel, mom and Tiff went and saw "The Greatest Showman." It was so good. Musicals aren't my favorite, but wow, this show was awesome! Keith held down the fort at home while we were gone. The kids had a great night playing with dad. They copied Rockwell's great idea and set up targets for Nerf guns with Dixie cups.
Yesterday was Wyatt's baptism preview. He was our first child to have one and it was really nice. He was so excited. He can't wait to be baptized. They gave us a workbook with questions and things to study and he wanted to go right home and do it all. He gave the opening prayer and it was so cute! He looked adorable up there in his suit and gave a beautiful prayer. He has been looking up scriptures about baptism. He has always been a spiritual boy. I'm really excited that the wards do their own baptisms and I think Wyatt will be the only one being baptized in August so it will be our own private baptism. I told him that he will get to pick the speakers and the songs. He laughed and said he was going to choose "Crazy Frog" and "Turn Down for What" for his songs. Funny kid!

I loved the record of your typical day and I hope you see that you do a ton. Mothers of young children do so much and deal with so many little problems (like the mashed potatoes)! That's great that you recorded that. Poor Jonah with his jaw expander! I remember you guys having trouble eating with that and when your braces were tightened. Lots of fun things going on!! Wyatt did look so cute in his suit and how wonderful that he wanted to come right home and do his workbook! He'll be so ready for baptism!
Love this Al. You're a rock star of a mom!
