Hope of America

Hallee has been working hard to learn all of the songs for her Hope of America concert.  They practiced every  Wednesday after school.  She was glad that Trinity did it too.  Last Wednesday was the big day.  Hallee likes to be very early to everything, so we got her there and in her seat with an hour to spare! It's a long night because they want the kids there early and there is a pre-show.  Hallee was happy to hang out with Trinity and enjoy the pre-show.
The pre-show was fun. They had the Golden Girls preform, they are women from age 55-95.  I love watching them dance and a woman who had to be at least in her 80's did the splits.  They also had the dunk team and UVU's green man group preform.
The whole show is just fantastic. They sing songs about the history of America, voting, the Declaration of Independence, the military and Martin Luther King.  Here is a picture of them singing "I Have a Dream."  They played a slideshow of Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement during the song.
Thank You Military is my favorite song. They have everyone who has served in the military and their families stand while the kids sing to them.  It's a tear jerker for sure.  It is so humbling to think that people are willing to sacrifice everything to protect our rights and freedoms.
This program takes so many volunteers to make it happen.  The teachers at the school volunteer their time after school to teach the kids these songs.  Before the program started they talked about how important it is to teach the rising generation about our nation's history and to love and honor their country and how everyone volunteers their time because they think it is so important. I couldn't agree more.
They brought out the flag from Follow the Flag.
The last song they sing is about being a light and helping others.  The kids all have a flashlight that they turn on during the chorus.  It is a beautiful song and always makes me cry.
Hallee loved being a part of this program and we loved watching her!
