Caitlyn has been playing tennis with Provo High for a few weeks now and she loves it. She loves having something to call her own, she loves the feeling of belonging to a team and she loves to play tennis. She has been getting up early every morning for two hour practices. I love to see her enthusiasm and excitement. Our neighbor, Alisha played last year and encouraged Caitlyn to play. Alisha told me that all of the girls love Caitlyn and think she is hilarious and so much fun to be around. It makes a mom so happy when people see how wonderful your kids are!
Here she is in her uniform. They let the seniors pick out the uniforms and they picked out this $100 dress! I really need to stop complaining about the money because I really am grateful that Caitlyn has found something she is so excited about. She is such a beautiful girl!
Today was her first match and neither one of us knew what to expect. We were told the matches last about three hours. She had back to back matches today one at 9 AM and one at Noon, so it was a long, hot day for her.
Varsity and JV play first so the kids and I headed over to the High school a little after 10 AM. She had her first match close to 11 AM.
She plays doubles. I was so impressed with what I saw. The first team they played was Juab. These four girls (two from Provo and two from Juab) were complimenting and encouraging each other through out the whole match. Jonah and Jacob couldn't understand why they were being so friendly instead of competitive. I loved seeing these girls be so kind and encouraging to each other. What a great environment for these teenage girls!
I think Caitlyn gets a little worried about "not being good enough," but for the most part she is just excited about her improvement. A few weeks ago she had only played tennis once or twice in her life and after a few weeks of practice she has already improved so much. She did great with her serves and had quite a few great hits. I love to hear her focus on her good hits instead of the times she misses. Caitlyn is so good at having a positive attitude!
I have a lot to learn about tennis, I don't understand the rules or the scoring. I sure had fun watching Caitlyn play though. Her second match was against Westlake. It was another very friendly match. They weren't quite as complimentary as the Juab team, but they were very kind and encouraging. Caitlyn was so hot and tired after being there for 6 hours! I'm so proud of Caitlyn and her hard work and dedication. Keep it up Caitlyn!
