Keith and I had a little get-away last week. We have been married for eleven years this year and have never gone away for more than one night. The stars aligned and everything worked out and we were able to go for two nights. It was so fun!
I found a great deal on groupon. We stayed in this really nice cabin and got a snowmobile for one day. The cabin was great. This is the view when you walk in and that white door in the back is the bedroom and it also had a huge Jacuzzi tub. They had hot tubs outside as well, but we never did brave the cold to get to them! It had a full kitchen and plenty of room!
This is a view of the cabins from the snowmobile path we were on. I was a little nervous about riding down the hill to path. The cabins are up by Kamas, but because the highway is closed for the winter we had to go through Wyoming to get to them. The closed highway is where we could ride the snowmobiles. There were a bunch of different trails off of the highway that we could go on as well. I liked to drive on the highway, I let Keith drive on the trails!
There was a little lodge with a store and a grill, where they would make you a couple of different things, but you really need to bring your own food. The lady who worked there was really nice and accommodating. We got up there on Tuesday and she let us take the snowmobile that night because she said she wouldn't be in until later the next day. We were going to try and ride it Tuesday night, but there was a blizzard so we just stayed in our warm cabin. I can't believe how much more relaxing it was to be away for two days instead of one. We stayed up late and didn't worry about it because we knew we could sleep in. We didn't feel rushed or stressed at all, it was wonderful! Our kids were off on Spring Break and my mom was nice enough to bring Dante and Alexys to our house and watch all of the kids there. It was great that Hallee was home sleeping in her own bed!
Wednesday morning we went out to go snowmobiling, but we couldn't get it started. We knew the lady wouldn't be in for a few hours so we just went and watched a movie. Later it started right up. It was freezing up there and she said they are very temperamental when the temperature drops so low at night. Anyway, we ended up going out right after lunch instead. She said we could just keep the snowmobile until the next morning because of the trouble.
It was beautiful up there! I am turning into an old lady who can't stop commenting on how beautiful nature is. We went up on a trail and I got a little nervous, but not nearly as bad as I thought I would. I was really nervous before we went so it was nice that it all went smoothly and I wasn't nervous anymore. After a while we went home and warmed up for a while. It was freezing! I'm not one to get cold very often, but wow was it cold. It wasn't as bad when you were the driver because they had the shield and hand warmers, but as a passenger it got pretty bitter.
Around 4:00 PM we decided to head back out. This lady kept telling us about a warming hut and we told her where we had been and she said we weren't that far from it. We decided to go back up and try to find it. It sounded really neat, but in reality it was this run down old building with a wood burning stove in it. The trail to get there was really scary and the last mile was really bad. You can see the building in the back. There wasn't a trail to the hut so we walked over and the snow was up to our waist. The snow wasn't packed down like the rest of the trail and it was so narrow that it was really hard to drive on. We ended up tipping over a few times. After we tipped we couldn't get the snowmobile started again. In reality we were fine and I had just hit the kill switch, but I had a moment of panic. I knew no one would come looking for us until the next day and it wasn't realistic to walk back. I had warm clothes on for riding a snowmobile, but we were not dressed for walking in the snow. Anyway, we ended up getting it started and getting out without a problem. We did stop and say a prayer because getting back up the trail was really scary. Luckily Keith knew what to do and got us home safely. We were both relieved when we were off the narrow steep part of the trail.
We probably should have had two single snowmobiles in case we had any problems, but all is well that ends well!
There were no phones in our cabins and our cell phones didn't get reception, at first this made me nervous, but then it was kind of nice. I could call home from the lodge and we had Wi-Fi so my mom could text us on the IPAD. I did miss my kids, but it was nice not worrying about calling them and checking on them all of the time. I knew they were safe and happy with grandma and I was able to just relax and enjoy myself. We watched movies and played games and had a great time together. I haven't been that relaxed in a long time. This is definitely a place we would go visit again!
