I love to make birthdays special for my kids. Jonah's seemed pretty low key this year. Usually it is a lot of hard work and stress, but I didn't feel that way this time. I think it is because we haven't had his friend party yet! In a couple of weeks we are taking him and a few friends to a hockey game, thanks to Katie and Ben!
On Sunday we had a party for Jonah at my parents. I love how exciting birthdays are for kids. I love making that day all about them and teaching the other kids to be happy for other people when they get something and you don't.
We had dinner and the kids had fun playing together. Ron, Jason and Jenna were there for dinner. It was nice to visit with them. Jonah was excited when it was time for presents!
Jonah gives excited reactions to all of the presents and then quickly tosses them aside to move onto the next one. He got really spoiled this year. I got a lot of great deals so he ended up getting a lot more than he usually does.
His Gordon Hayward jersey was definitely a favorite. He is so excited to wear it to the Jazz games this year. He also loved this remote control helicopter that my parents got him.
This is the first time that one of my kids has been in school on their birthday. He woke up and ate his favorite cereal and got ready for school. I had his helicopter charged and we had time to fly it before school. He also flew it again last night. He got the hang of it really quickly. I on the other hand, flew it right onto the roof! Jonah was excited to take a treat into his class.
Keith and I were both planning on eating lunch with Jonah at school, but it was during Hallee's nap time so of course Jonah picked Keith to come eat with him instead of me. Caitlyn and Jonah love to take Keith to school because all of their friends love him. He is so funny and good with kids. Keith ended up leaving work early and picking Wyatt up from pre-school and taking Wyatt with him to eat lunch at the school. He bought them both happy meals and the boys loved it.
Jonah loves having Gaven in his class again this year. These two get along so well. Today Jonah came home and told me that he got a rocket ticket (a reward for good behavior) from the principal. During recess someone was pushing a boy named Brandon. Jonah said that Brandon gets teased a lot because "he is a little bit different." Jonah walked up to the boy that pushed Brandon and told him to stop. The boy told Jonah that he would push him next and Jonah said, "go ahead, I would rather have you push me than Brandon." The principal overheard and gave Jonah a rocket ticket and took the boy that pushed into the office for a white slip. Jonah said he made sure that he passed Brandon the ball during soccer so he could get a goal. I was so proud of him!
Jonah wanted to go to Chuck-a-rama for his birthday. I think this is another reason that his birthday was easy. I didn't have to worry about cooking dinner and dessert that day. We all love going out to eat so it was great. We picked the kids up from school and went to dinner. The kids love being able to chose whatever they want to eat.
The dessert is always a big hit! Jonah kept saying, "it is all thanks to me that we are eating here."
After that we stopped by Keith's parents so they could wish Jonah a happy birthday. He is really excited that he got some money for his birthday. I hope he can save some of it. Money burns a hole in Jonah's pocket. When we got home we had fun playing with some of his new toys. He was excited that we let him go out after dark and fly his helicopter before bed. I think he had a great birthday. I still can't believe he is 8-years-old and will be getting baptized in a few weeks. We sure love this kid.
