Jackson

A little over a week ago we found this cute guy.  He is almost two-years old and we bought him from a family in Riverdale.  They were moving to a new apartment that didn't allow pets.  I felt horrible taking him while their son was crying.  They were a very nice family and wanted Jackson to go to a good home with kids.  Isn't he cute?

This is what Jackson looked like when we picked him up.  I couldn't wait to get him groomed, I took their first appointment the next day.  We have been looking for a dog on and off.  I usually get nervous and decide we aren't ready.  We wanted a small dog and we wanted a  poodle or a dog with hair so they wouldn't shed.  I was looking on KSL and I saw Jackson and I felt excited instead of scared.  It seems silly, but I really feel like he is the right dog for us and I knew it.  Jackson is a Pomeranian Poodle. He is potty trained and kennel trained and a really smart dog.  He will open his own cage when you tell him to go to bed and he is pretty obedient.  

We found Jackson online on Sunday so first thing Monday morning Hallee, Wyatt and I drove down to Riverdale to meet him.  He jumped up on Hallee and Wyatt and they didn't mind.  He will jump on you when he first sees you, but he will leave you alone after that.  I never thought I would see the day, but we bought the dog and brought him home.  At first I was pretty unsettled with a dog in my house.  I felt like he was dirty, especially with the long hair and I was terrified he would go to the bathroom in the house.  I gave him a bath and Wyatt had fun playing with him until it was time to pick Caitlyn and Jonah up.

We put Jackson on his leash and walked over to pick the kids up from school. They knew I was looking at the dog, but we didn't know if we would get him or not.  When Caitlyn and Jonah noticed us they both started screaming out in excitement and ran over and started petting Jackson.  Caitlyn has been begging for a dog for a while.  She loves animals and I think she will really benefit from the love she gets from Jackson.   It is funny to think how terrified she was of dogs a few years ago.

Jonah loves Jackson.  He loves to play keep away with him and have Jackson chase him.  Jonah is a little jumpy around Jackson.  I think he just doesn't like the unpredictability of what Jackson will do.  Jonah and his friend love getting Jackson to chase them.

I knew all my kids would love a dog, but I was most excited for Wyatt and Caitlyn.  Wyatt has had so much fun with Jackson.  I was a little surprised that he wasn't scared at all.  

Wyatt carries Jackson around everywhere.  I always catch him hugging Jackson and saying, "I love you Jackson."  It is so cute!

I was also surprised that Hallee wasn't scared of him.  She likes when he jumps up on her, but she wants me to hold him still so she can hug him.  Whenever we leave the house Hallee says, "I miss Jackson."   

Jackson really is a great dog.  He loves to play, but he will just lay down if no one wants to play.  It has only been a week and I am already okay with having a dog in my house.  I mop and vacuum a little more often, but I don't find him gross like I thought I would.

Jackson is always walking on two legs, it is really cute.  I think Keith and I are both surprised with how much we like having Jackson around.   Jackson follows Keith and I around everywhere.  He loves to just sit on my lap while I pet him.  At first he seemed pretty indifferent to the kids, but he is starting to follow them around now and they love it.  We all liked the name Jackson so we decided not to change it.  Caitlyn loves to take him for walks and the kids love to play with him in the back yard.  I feel like we found the right dog at the right time and we were ready for him.
