Lori had told us about this great service opportunity and I was so glad it worked out for us to go this time. They have this awesome Christian charity called Feed My Starving Children in Mesa. Apparently Wyatt thought we were going out to eat when we told him the name of the place.
They have everyone put on a hair net and then they explained a little bit about who we were helping and gave us instructions. The food we packed that day went to Honduras. When we were finished we watched a video and saw some of the children that have been helped by this organization. It was so touching, it is so easy to forget just how blessed we are.
We all worked together to pack up as many bags as we could. Each bag has soy, rice, vitamins and vegetables. The kids put that all in the bag and Lori sealed the bags.
I helped Hallee and Wyatt count the bags and when we had 36 bags we would pack them in a box.
It was such a cool experience. The kids all loved it and felt good about the work they did. There were a ton of volunteers, Lori said you have to book pretty far in advance to get a spot. Each shift is two hours. They turn on music and everyone just works together to get the food packed up. They said in the two hours we packed enough food to feed 136 children for a year. It was a great way to spend the day and a great reminder for all of us to be grateful for what we have.
On Monday we went and saw Incredibles 2. I tried so hard to stay awake, but I slept through almost all of the movie. The kids all loved it, now I need to go back and see it!
Hallee had fun showing Matt how well she can read.
When we weren't swimming the girls had fun doing crafts and playing mine craft.
The boys loved playing Fortnite together.
Caitlyn and Elena did makeovers. Caitlyn's make up looks like the first time I wore make up!
They spoiled me for my birthday. Caitlyn and Elena made this big card for me and they got quotes from everyone to write inside!
The cheesecake was delicious.
They surprised me and decorated the house, they are such sweet girls!
Wyatt wrote I love you mom in Legos for me. They took a picture of that and put it in my card.
Matt and Lori are always so generous. They took me out to dinner twice for my birthday! It was fun to leave the kids at home and go visit and eat good food. They are the best hosts, so easy going and welcoming and I hope they know how much we appreciate it!
