I love my kids birthdays because they are always in a good mood! Jonah has been in a good mood all week. He finished all of his drivers Ed. stuff and passed his Drivers test last week so we were just waiting for his actual birthday to get his license. Jonah called me during school and asked if he could skip Fitness for Life and go out to eat with his friend. He had already been out to lunch with some friends, but another friend wanted to take him out. I figured it was his birthday, so why not and I was grateful that he asked instead of just doing it. Jonah wanted me to surprise him with presents this year. It is very hard to pick out things for your teenager. I was proud of myself for coming up with some ideas, one of them was a thread wallet. The week before his birthday he sent me a link and said, can you order this thread wallet for me and I'll pay you back. I wrapped it up and let him open it before we went to get his license.
He was a little confused when he opened it and it was in a Prilosec box.
Jonah and Wyatt have been planning to go to the store together as soon as Jonah got his license. Wyatt bought Jonah a Sodalicious for his birthday present. I loved seeing my boys so excited to hang out together.
As you can see, Jonah loves all of the pictures I take of him. He chose Italian chicken and rice and Caeser salad for dinner. He didn't want a dessert, which my other kids were pretty disappointed about.
After dinner he opened his presents. I think he liked that he had no idea what any of them were.
He tried to guess what they all were before he opened them.
He liked the shorts I picked out for him, not so much on the shirt, but that's okay. Jonah's style has changed and he likes to dress a bit nicer these days.
The timing was perfect because a new Michael Vey book just came out. It's been five years since the series ended, so this was a fun surprise. He was excited to get the new book.
Wyatt was very excited about the book too, they both love that series.
I had a hard time deciding what to get Jonah. He got really excited and surprised when he thought one of the presents felt like shoes.
He got even more excited when he opened it and saw the Nike box. Jonah loves shoes!
I went to the Nike outlet by Mel's house to pick some out. I didn't know which ones to get so Mel called Elijah and he helped us pick some out. I got all white because Jonah likes his shoes to match his clothes, but he wasn't so sure about the all white. He tried them on and decided he liked them and was really happy with them. He wore them the next day and they looked great!
Caitlyn gave Jonah money and Hallee gave Jonah some mints. He was very happy and grateful about his presents.
Jonah planned to go out and get a treat with some friends that night. He was so excited to drive his friends. He is not supposed to for six months, but so far we aren't following that rule. It's so hard to know what to do as a parent. He is on the older end of his friend group so they are all pretty excited about Jonah driving too. The car window got stuck down that night. He decided last minute to have a birthday party with his friends at Brick Oven on Friday after school. He was planning on driving his friends, but we needed to get the car into the shop to get the window up. We worked it out and he helped me drop it off and he took his friends in the van. The shop got the window up, but didn't fix it so we could have it back yesterday. Last night he took some friends out for ice cream after the football game and the other window wouldn't roll up. Poor Jonah, that was a frustrating way to start out driving. We ordered a part that we hope will fix it, but it won't be here until next week. For now he is just driving it with the window down. I think he has realized that he is just happy to have a car, even though they are a real pain sometimes!
Jonah is so funny, I kept asking him if he wanted a party and told him that we should do something fun because turning sixteen is a big deal. He kept telling me that he didn't want to do anything. The night before his birthday we called him upstairs and it took him a while to come up and when he did, he said, “sorry, I was planning a get together for my birthday. It's all set, we are going to Brick Oven Friday after school." That is typical Jonah, just take care of things himself and inform us later! We asked if we were paying for everyone and he said, "well that would be nice." He will take care of things on his own, but he is always happy to have us pay. We were happy to pay, I'm glad he got out and celebrated with his friends. It is weird that he doesn't need me for his parties anymore, he just needed my credit card. I didn't even make him take a picture since it was his birthday. He said they had a great time and everyone had fun.

It looks like you did a great job getting him what he liked! Fun pictures, especially the pained look on his face when he was eating his dinner. I'm glad he figured out a party for his birthday even though it was late and you had to pay! Looks like he was happy! Good job Al!
Nice job on the presents!
