One of the main reasons I wanted to go to New York was to see the 9/11 memorial and museum. I remember that day so clearly and it still seems shocking that it actually happened.
This is the New World Trade Center. This building was completed in 2014. It is the tallest building in New York.
There are two memorial pools in front of the World Trade Center that sit where the North and South towers were.
Around the pools are the names of everyone who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept 11, 2001 and they also include the names of the six people who died when terrorists bombed the world trade center in 1993. In total there are 2,983 names on the memorials.
The sound of the waterfalls add to the respectful, somber and reverent feeling that is present as you read the names of all of the victims.
There are more than 400 swamp oak tress around the memorial pools. I'm sure those look beautiful in the Spring and Fall.
It is a very peaceful place and everyone instinctively whispers if they talk. It is very sobering to read each name and see how many people's lives were affected by this tragedy.
It is impossible to get a picture of the whole plaza, but it is so beautiful and well done. To me, it represents that the United States of America is strong and will not be intimidated or destroyed by evil. America was so united after September 11, 2001. Everyone wanted to help and everyone cared about our country and everyone in it. It is so sad to me how divided our county is and that our elected officials are willing to set aside the best interest of our country to advance their own agendas. I don't care what your political views are, we should all be working together to keep the United States of America a free country where people are safe and free to pursue happiness.
On each of the victims birthday a rose is placed by their name. We saw a few roses that day.
I spent time walking around both water memorials. Even though it is the middle of lower Manhattan, where life is so busy, loud and crowded, there is a reverence here that causes everyone to slow down and lower their voices.

Beautiful pictures and thoughts! It sounds like the feelings and reverence at Pearl Harbor.
I would love to go there. I’m glad I can see your pictures.
