Every year a few families in our neighborhood put on a 4th of July event called Sidewalk of Fire. We have heard great things about it and the kids were so excited. They made t-shirts this year as a fundraiser so we got each of the kids a shirt and then we donated some money. I'm glad we did because I bet they spend a fortune on this!
I snapped this picture, but it doesn't show just how many people were there. People who have moved come back and a lot of people bring their families. They had a DJ, a dunk tank, a bounce house, candy rockets, carnival games and prizes, cotton candy, popcorn, face painting and a dessert bar.
The kids all loved the face painting. We got there right when it started and it wasn't too crowded yet, so the kids got to play all of the games and get all of the treats.
It was a bit awkward at times because I still don't know a lot of people, but everyone is always friendly.
The kids saw their friends, but never really went off with them.
Matt and Lori drove into town that night so we were excited when they texted to say they were at our house. Caitlyn and I left and picked them up. Matt left and stayed at my parents since he was going on a hike early the next morning, but Lori and the kids stayed with us.
I'm so glad they did, it was so much more fun with them there! They had a Marine in full uniform do a flag ceremony and talk about the different branches of the military. It was really neat, but we couldn't hear very well.
Wyatt was excited to be in the food eating contest. He took 5th place in his age group. Jonah and Caitlyn wanted to do it, but there were too many people, so they didn't get a chance.
People got there early to save a spot for fireworks. We have heard amazing things about their firework show and it did not disappoint.
The kids loved their shirts. Wyatt was so excited about the fireworks this year. He has always had a hard time with loud noises, but he was fine with it this year. Hallee didn't like the noise and Wyatt said, "It's just noise Hallee, it can't hurt anything."
Hallee was sad because her glow stick bracelet broke. I love how expressive she is.
She watched the fireworks with the kids for a minute and then she wanted to come sit with me.
Hallee plugged her ears and hid under the blanket for most of the firework show.
They played songs during the fireworks. I loved Neil Diamond, "Coming to America" and "God Bless America." It was so cute to look over and see all of the kids singing along. The fireworks were amazing. They had at least seven guys on the street lighting tons of fountains and then tons of aerial fireworks going off at the same time. The fireworks went on for at least twenty minutes and they were so fun to watch with the Patriotic music in the background. I'm sure glad some people enjoy planning things like this because we enjoy attending!
